Truly Infinite Possibilities

With a motto like “Infinite Possibilities” it is easy to see that Gatton Academy encourages students to try new things – expanding their horizons while also fostering a curious environment. One way I have seen this firsthand is when I was exploring what I wanted my major to be. Coming to Gatton, I had no idea what I wanted my career to be, or even where I wanted to go to college. However, on a whim I decided to enroll in a Russian language class my first semester, as a part of Gatton’s STEM+ Global Studies program. I absolutely loved the class and began looking into other classes I could take. About this time, I decided I wanted to also take a political science course. Even though this class was not a traditional STEM class, I was able to enroll in it. Because of these two classes, and because Gatton allowed me to explore outside of STEM, I found my passion and my prospective career.

However, even outside of academics, Gatton encourages students to pursue their passions. In my second semester, while I was exploring political science classes, I also decided to enroll in a dance class. I had danced competitively at my sending school, and I wanted to continue it. I was able to work around my schedule so that I met all of my STEM requirements while also taking this class. This class will in no way impact my future career, but I love dancing, and I am so glad I was able to continue that at Gatton. College can be stressful, and with the classes we are required to take for Gatton, I cannot stress the importance of taking a break, doing something you love, and exploring outside of your major. For me, that was dance!

It is so amazing to have a place that has both the resources and flexibility to allow students to pursue their dreams. Gatton is primarily a STEM program, and you still have the required STEM classes to complete before you graduate. However, I love that students are also given the opportunity to explore many different areas and specialties. I am confident that I would not be where I am today without the opportunities Gatton has given me. More than just a great education and excellent research opportunities, Gatton is a place where students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and realize their wildest dreams, whatever that may be.
